SYDNEY (AFP) — Hollywood star Cate Blanchett has given birth to a son, a spokesman for the Australian actress said Monday.
The baby is the third child for the 38-year-old Oscar-winner and her playwright husband Andrew Upton. He was born Sunday.
“Cate Blanchett and Andrew Upton have a baby boy, Ignatius Martin Upton,” a spokesman for the Sydney Theatre Company, where the couple are joint artistic directors, told AFP.
“All are well and very happy,” he added.
The baby is the third son for the Sydney-based couple, who already have Dashiell, six, and Roman, three.
Celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis is the new
mother of a baby girl, PEOPLE has confirmed.

“De Laurentiis and husband Todd Thompson welcomed their first child, a healthy baby girl, on Saturday March 29 in Los Angeles,” her rep tells PEOPLE. “Jade Marie De Laurentiis Thompson weighed in at 5lbs, 13oz.”
The baby is the first for the Food Network star and Today show contributor, 37, and her husband since 2003, Todd Thompson, 44, a clothing designer for Anthropologie.
“When I found out I was pregnant I was in complete shock,” De Laurentiis said last November, when the baby news was first announced. “I truly didn’t believe it. I honestly thought, ‘There has got to be a mistake.’ “
Giada told Redbook in January she’s hoping to pass on the love of food to her daughter, but she is being cautious. She said, “Watch, I will probably end up with a child who not only doesn’t care about food but doesn’t ever want to set foot in a kitchen!”
In February, she stated of the physical changes coming over her; including her sudden cravings for steak! “I couldn’t be more excited about being pregnant. I can’t wait to meet her.”
According to reports, Angelina Jolie is suffering from “gestational diabetes.” The actress is believed to be pregnant with twins. Sources claim she is having a rough pregnancy.
Whether these reports are true, or not, it got us thinking.
Should you be concerned about gestational diabetes?
The short answer: Yes.
Good care means a lot for your health and your baby’s health.
What is gestational diabetes?
Pregnant women who have never had diabetes before but who have high blood sugar (glucose) levels during pregnancy are said to have gestational diabetes. Gestational diabetes affects about 4% of all pregnant women - about 135,000 cases of gestational diabetes in the United States each year.
We don’t know what causes gestational diabetes, but we have some clues. The placenta supports the baby as it grows. Hormones from the placenta help the baby develop. But these hormones also block the action of the mother’s insulin in her body. This problem is called insulin resistance. Insulin resistance makes it hard for the mother’s body to use insulin. She may need up to three times as much insulin.
Gestational diabetes starts when your body is not able to make and use all the insulin it needs for pregnancy. Without enough insulin, glucose cannot leave the blood and be changed to energy. Glucose builds up in the blood to high levels. This is called hyperglycemia.
How gestational diabetes can affect your baby
Gestational diabetes affects the mother in late pregnancy, after the baby’s body has been formed, but while the baby is busy growing. Because of this, gestational diabetes does not cause the kinds of birth defects sometimes seen in babies whose mothers had diabetes before pregnancy.
So far, 2008 has been a huge year for Celebrity Babies!

“I’m head over heels in love,” says Christina Aguilera of her new son, Max Liron Bratman, born Jan. 12. The new mom, who has given breast-feeding credit for her post-baby bod, says her husband Jordan loves her new figure! Aguilera recently told Access Hollywood: “I think they say that when you’re breastfeeding, you know, your weight kind of slims down. It’s a little easier. It’s like a workout within itself. It’s very tiring actually and you find yourself snacking more often.”
PEOPLE - “Halle Berry, who only recently said, “I want to stay pregnant forever”, had a baby girl Sunday and “is doing great,” her rep has confirmed.
The father is Gabriel Aubry. Berry, 41, and the 32-year-old model met while shooting a Versace ad in Los Angeles in November 2005 and first stepped out publicly together three months later at the February 2006 opening of a Versace boutique in New York City.
Berry first announced her pregnancy in September last year, when she was three months along.
During her pregnancy, the Oscar, Emmy and Razzie winner told InStyle she felt “fantastic” thanks to eating right and keeping fit with yoga, swimming, light weights and an elliptical machine. “Right now I just have so much joy and energy,” she said. “I can just go and go and go.”
